From the Ground Up: Developing organic communities

Sustainable agriculture technologies and organic fertilizer production technologies was shared to at least 600 farmers in seven rice producing cities/municipalities across the country under the OFSP Phase 1. Partnerships were also forged among local government units, non-government organizations, local farmers’ organizations, DA units and the private sector for collective initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture at the local level.

UP professor calls for government promotion of organic farming

ORGANIC farming should be given as much importance as the genetic engineering of rice to boost the country’s chances of addressing the looming rice crisis in the face of the global economic slowdown and impacts of climate change.

Oscar Zamora, a professor of the University of the Philippines College of Agriculture in Los Baños, Laguna, said focus should also be given on the formulation of solutions based on the real problems that beset the country’s rice economy rather than the development of genetically engineered rice variety which, he said, does not solely address farmers’ woes. I believe in organic farming. Also the organic products are much more better than that of genetic products. If the government does not support the organic farming than certainly it will effect the climate change and result in global warming.I agree with the professor , focus should be given to the formulation of solutions based on the real problems that beset the country’s rice economy rather than the development of genetically engineered rice variety.
