UP professor calls for government promotion of organic farming |

ORGANIC farming should be given as much importance as the genetic engineering of rice to boost the country’s chances of addressing the looming rice crisis in the face of the global economic slowdown and impacts of climate change. Oscar Zamora, a professor of the University of the Philippines College of Agriculture in Los Baños, Laguna, said focus should also be given on the formulation of solutions based on the real problems that beset the country’s rice economy rather than the development of genetically engineered rice variety which, he said, does not solely address farmers’ woes.
