From the Ground Up: Developing organic communities

Sustainable agriculture technologies and organic fertilizer production technologies was shared to at least 600 farmers in seven rice producing cities/municipalities across the country under the OFSP Phase 1. Partnerships were also forged among local government units, non-government organizations, local farmers’ organizations, DA units and the private sector for collective initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture at the local level.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala says he is keen on achieving rice sufficiency within his incumbency even if it means overhauling the rice program and splurging on post-harvest facilities, irrigation and farm-to-market roads (FMRs).

Alcala's vow to reduce rice importations substantially comes at a time when the Department of Agriculture (DA) has been importing record levels of rice from Vietnam, Thailand and other countries. Read more here.
