From the Ground Up: Developing organic communities

Sustainable agriculture technologies and organic fertilizer production technologies was shared to at least 600 farmers in seven rice producing cities/municipalities across the country under the OFSP Phase 1. Partnerships were also forged among local government units, non-government organizations, local farmers’ organizations, DA units and the private sector for collective initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture at the local level.

Our Infotext (SMS) Hotline will provide instant answers to queries on organic farming and requests for materials. Through mobile messaging, we will inform farmers, LGUs, NGOs, POs, and other advocates about the latest activities, news, developments and other updates on organic agrixulture.

Yap urges farmers to shift to organic agriculture PDF Print E-mail

MANILA, Philippines – Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap is urging farmers to adopt the Department of Agriculture’s organic agriculture program for more profitable production and to protect the environment and guarantee the sustainability of the country’s land resources.

Yap is concerned over the reckless use of the country’s natural resources and overdependence on chemical-based pesticides and fertilizers that have had harmful, and possibly permanent, effects on the environment.

“In many parts of the country,” Yap pointed out, “the soil is by now so degraded that it has become virtually impossible to grow food without costly farm inputs.” Read more here.
