Shift to organic to stabilize price of rice |

TO stabilize the price of rice and prevent yet another rice-price crisis, a consortium of the nongovernment organization is pushing to promote organic farming and production of organic fertilizers in lieu of conventional farming, which is highly dependent on petrochemical-based fertilizers and pesticides. Jaime “Ka Jimmy” Tadeo, spokesman of Go Organic! Philippines said the expected rice production shortfall this year can be attributed to the fact that fertilizer prices is vulnerable to the price of crude oil, a political commodity, which makes its price equally unpredictable.
