Sustainable agriculture technologies and organic fertilizer production technologies was shared to at least 600 farmers in seven rice producing cities/municipalities across the country under the OFSP Phase 1. Partnerships were also forged among local government units, non-government organizations, local farmers’ organizations, DA units and the private sector for collective initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture at the local level.

Group says global crisis makes organic farming more relevant PDF Print E-mail

THREATS that another rice crisis may hit the Philippines this year because of the ongoing financial crisis gives agriculture officials more reason to promote sustainable organic agriculture to improve rice production and better farmers’ income amid the rising cost of chemical-based farm inputs, the Go Organic! Movement said in a press statement.

Efren Moncupa, lead convenor of the Go Organic! Philippines said that for as long as conventional agriculture remains highly dependent on imported fertilizers and pesticides, the country will remain vulnerable to problems such as shortage in the supply of rice which triggers rice price increases.
