The Ebola virus which is so deadly that it has killed off whole villages in Africa has been detected twice in the Philippines.
In the most recent outbreak last December, the government acted with dispatch to conduct an epidemiological study on the reemergence of the Ebola Reston virus – this time, in local swine. The 10-day investigation was conducted by a team from the World Health Organization (WHO), Office International des Epizooties (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture (FAO) in response to the request of Secretary Arthur Yap of the Department of Agriculture (DA). The government wants to craft a national surveillance plan as well as a diagnostics and disease prevention program to beat this virus for good. Read more here.
