400,000 hectares eyed for organic farming |

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Arthur C. Yap has made a pronouncement adopting rice farms, generally those that have low yield of 3.5 metric tons (MT) and below, to transform them into chemical-free organic farms. "When the price of fertilizer went up from P1,000 to P2,000, people thought this is no longer tenable. One option to solve this was to go organic farming. So DA decided there should be a policy shift to convert 10 percent of rice farms into organic," said Roland G. Cabigas, convenor of Go Organic!, in a press briefing.Read more here.
