From the Ground Up: Developing organic communities

Sustainable agriculture technologies and organic fertilizer production technologies was shared to at least 600 farmers in seven rice producing cities/municipalities across the country under the OFSP Phase 1. Partnerships were also forged among local government units, non-government organizations, local farmers’ organizations, DA units and the private sector for collective initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture at the local level.

TO have better food security and nurturing of farmlands, organic-farming advocates are urging President-apparent Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to use part of the P3.5-billion fund for the Ginintuang Masaganing Ani rice program to promote organic farming.

“An important program such as the promotion of organic farming, which supports sustainable agriculture through environment-friendly ways of producing food on our table, deserves a bigger share from the budget of the Department of Agriculture,” said Roland Cabigas, managing director of La Liga Policy Institute and a convenor of Go Organic!
